It’s never too early to look at mock drafts! In Pro Football Focus’ latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft, they have the Kansas City Chiefs selecting Trevon Diggs, a cornerback out of Alabama, with the 29th overall pick.

The Kansas City Chiefs have only played seven games so far in the 2019 season, but mock drafts start popping up even immediately after the current draft has wrapped up. There’s nothing to really take seriously in these, especially when they’re being put out in October, but this one by Pro Football Focus has the Chiefs taking a talented corner out of Alabama; Trevon Diggs.

"Diggs is a massive corner at 6-foot-2, 207 pounds who is tailor-made for press-man in the NFL. He still gets stacked more than we’d like vertically, but his ability to take receivers out of the progression at the line of scrimmage is impressive. Diggs has allowed a passer rating of 24.0 so far this season."

While some might argue that the Chiefs’ biggest priority in the draft should be finding someone who can help stop the run, corner is a big time need as well. I’m always skeptical about taking someone from Alabama in the draft, but Diggs is talented, no doubt.

More from KC Kingdom

Diggs, who is the younger brother of Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, started his career with the Crimson Tide as a wide receiver, but made the switch to defensive back as a sophomore. The result has been pretty darn good and this year, so far, Diggs has totaled 18 tackles, three defended passes, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery.

Next year’s draft will be important for the Chiefs because it’s very possible that Patrick Mahomes will get his mega contract this offseason. That means this organization needs to start drafting better than they have been and with 2020 being the first year that Brett Veach will actually have a first round pick, he needs to make it count.

Trevon Diggs would be a nice selection because the cornerback position is up in the air for KC next year. Bashaud Breeland, Morris Claiborne, and Kendall Fuller are all set to be free agents this offseason, leaving the Chiefs with Charvarius Ward and Rashad Fenton along with some lesser known names. It’ll be important to add AT LEAST one corner early in the draft.

There’s only so many picks Veach will be able to make in the early rounds, but selecting Diggs in the first round (as of now) wouldn’t be a bad choice by any means.
