KC Chiefs: Brett Veach and Andy Reid shoulder blame for roster issues
By John McCarty
Help can be found and brought in, just not likely available this season.
For all the talk about the Kansas City Chiefs’ corners, and they haven’t been good, the linebackers have been an unmitigated disaster. The front four has been unable, outside of moments from Chris Jones, to generate much if any pass rush or display an ability to stop the run. (This all really sounds familiar).

The Chiefs could use practicing tackling, but likely won’t, and we will continue to see this defense struggle with things like tackling and to a degree finding the ball in coverage.
Darron Lee might be fast and Damien Wilson may be athletic, but neither can tackle very well, which makes stopping the run or slowing down tight ends and running backs from killing you in the passing game difficult. Perhaps the draft can yield a linebacker or two that can tackle.
The Chiefs have to figure out how to stop tight ends and running backs in the passing game, and I’m not sure how exactly you do that without a complete change in personnel at the linebacker position. If you want the Chiefs go trade for someone, a defender that can cover a tight end would be awesome.
We can want the Kansas City Chiefs to work on their defense and we can want them to have a better defense, but as long as this organization doesn’t value toughness and physicality, the defense will never be that impressive.
The organization is simply bringing in a group of people that are going to struggle to have a solid defense. As the roster begins, in parts, to age, the must stay ahead of the curve.
