Mizzou football looks legit this year and has a very real chance at securing their first SEC East title since 2014.

It was a wild weekend of college football, but for Mizzou football, this weekend showed that the Tigers have a realistic shot at winning the SEC East in 2019. That came about when third ranked Georgia showed they’re vulnerable, losing to South Carolina IN Athens in double overtime.

Considering Missouri walloped South Carolina a few weeks ago, that’s a game that no longer should scare Mizzou fans. No, Georgia shouldn’t be taken lightly, but losing to the Gamecocks in Athens shows that the Bulldogs aren’t quite the “surefire winners” that we initially thought. Missouri most definitely has a chance in that game next month.

Right now, the Tigers can control their own destiny.

Out of all of the teams remaining on Missouri’s schedule, only two of them are currently ranked; Georgia (#3) and Florida (#7). Both of those teams lost on Saturday, for what it’s worth. Florida did lose to a tough LSU team, but any loss by an SEC East team is a win for Missouri.

All three of these teams have one loss on their resumés now, but only Florida’s loss is respectable;  Missouri lost to Wyoming and Georgia fell to South Carolina. It’ll come down to one of these three teams, so MU fans should definitely be keeping a close on both Florida and Georgia over the next few weeks.

Missouri’s schedule:

Georgia’s schedule:

  • at Georgia Tech

Mizzou certainly has a favorable schedule, outside of those two opponents, so if they take care of business, they should be good to go. Georgia has an absolute brutal schedule, with games at Florida, at Auburn, and against Texas A&M remaining this season. With one loss already on the Bulldogs’ resumé, they can’t afford to lose again, but it won’t be easy for Georgia.

MU fans have to feel good about this team moving forward. They have a dominant defense, an electrifying offense, and this truly is one of the most talented teams the program has seen since in awhile. Hopefully it pays off and we can see a big bowl game for the Tigers come January.

There’s still a lot of football to be played, but the Missouri Tigers sure look like a team that needs to be taken seriously in the SEC East title run. Even better – They already had their “typical Missouri loss” in week one, so fans don’t need to be waiting for the other shoe to drop this time around.

Should be a fun few weeks to finish out the 2019 season!
