As I mentioned on the opening page, the AFC West confused a lot of people this weekend.

Many expected both the Chiefs and Chargers to win their games with ease, and for the Raiders and Broncos to lose their respective games. Instead, the Chiefs and Chargers lost while the Raiders and Broncos defied the odds and won their match-ups. It was a weird week of football.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Arguably the most surprising was the Chiefs laying a stinker against the Colts, who came into Arrowhead Stadium for Sunday Night Football and ran all over the Kansas City defense. Don’t think that opponents aren’t going to continue that strategy, folks. The run defense is a real problem for the Chiefs and could cost them a lot of games this year.

On the contrary, the defense did hold Indy to 19 points and the offense didn’t do anything. It was a really bad game and one that can hopefully be forgotten about next week when the Chiefs host the Texans for a noon game on Sunday.

Before I sign off on this post, here’s a look at the AFC West standings after five weeks of play.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-1)
  2. Oakland Raiders (3-2)
  3. Los Angeles Chargers (2-3)
  4. Denver Broncos (1-4)

Hopefully the Chiefs can get more of a lead next week while the Raiders are on a bye week.
