Shotgun on fourth and short is dumb
It would be unfair if this didn’t get brought up. The Chiefs attempted a fourth-down conversion once the rain started. It was fourth and about half a yard, so the Chiefs decided to go for it instead of kicking a field goal.

Patrick Mahomes is in the shotgun and a low snap caused by a wet ball forces Mahomes to rush the handoff. The Chiefs failed to convert on what should have been an easy conversion.
This is the problem with the NFL as a whole with more teams playing almost exclusively out of either shotgun or pistol. It gives defense a much easier time and unless you have an offensive line that can move people, these types of things aren’t going to work.
Running backs like being able to get a bit of a run-up to build speed. Going from under center or even the pistol allows them to do that. The Chiefs have an amazing fullback in Anthony Sherman. Go under center and either do a quarterback sneak with your tall signal caller or even a fullback dive.
Shotgun limits what you can do in short-yardage situations, especially in obvious spots like fourth down. To any head coaches who might be reading this and has a fourth and short inside handoff play in their playbook, tear it up and throw it away.
GOOD WIN!
This was a good game against a great team and the Kansas City Chiefs’ schedule gets a little easier from here on out until they play the Patriots in December. The defense showed mass improvement and the offense keeps on rolling over teams at a record pace.
This isn’t your Alex Smith-led Chiefs. This is what Andy Reid and former GM John Dorsey were building ever since they took over in 2013.
Rejoice Chiefs Kingdom, this team is going places
