Charvarius Ward

The Chiefs have to make a move at the cornerback position. I know fans are waiting for Morris Claiborne to come off of his suspension after week four, but the fact that Claiborne is our answer should worry Chiefs fans even more. One thing I am certain of after Sunday’s performance is that Charvarius Ward is not ready to be a starting, every down corner for the Chiefs.

The above tweet is very telling. Ward was beat consistently on Sunday, and that was against rookie late round pick Gardner Minshew. Definitely not the start you want to your first season as a starter.

To be clear, I am not ready to give up on Ward. He has shown flashes of being a very good player, and he definitely has enough talent to contribute to this team. As of now, though, he just isn’t ready for an expanded role.

Hopefully the Chiefs can bring some veteran help in, and Ward can continue to develop into the player many believe he can be. I for one am pulling for him. He just isn’t quite there yet.

CONCLUSION

The Kansas City Chiefs won their game 40-26 and moved to 1-0 for the fifth straight season. The offense looked great, but the defense was a mixed bag, which was disappointing. Hopefully Frank Clark can play to the level of what the Chiefs paid him and it’d be nice to see some improvements from Charvarius Ward.

As for the Stock Up players, Sammy Watkins earned that 100%. His three touchdowns and close to 200 yards of production spoke for itself and he’ll need to continue to play on that level with Tyreek Hill missing time. Damien Wilson won’t get as much love due to his position and stats, but he had a good game.
