For yet another season, the Kansas City Chiefs will claim the AFC West title as the Broncos improve but the Chargers and Raiders take a step back.

Overall, here’s how I see the AFC West falling into place:

More from KC Kingdom

  1. Kansas City Chiefs. Record: 12-4; Divisional: 5-1; Conference: 10-2.
  2. Los Angeles Chargers. Record: 8-8; Divisional: 4-2; Conference: 7-5.
  3. Denver Broncos. Record: 8-8; Divisional: 2-4; Conference: 6-6.
  4. Oakland Raiders. Record: 3-13; Divisional: 1-5; Conference: 2-10.

Looks familiar, doesn’t it? Oddly enough, that’s not too uncommon for this division. In 2014, the AFC West finished exactly the way it had the previous season. Same thing happened in 2011 and 2012, and, before that, 2008 and 2009.

The future is brightest in Kansas City, but it’s got glimmers of hope in each of the three other cities.

In Denver, the defense remains strong, and Drew Lock may turn into just the player the team needs to get the offense back into gear.

In Los Angeles, Rivers is surrounded by a surplus of talent; the team only needs stay healthy and find someone to replace the long-time veteran.

And for the Raiders, something splashy is going to happen once they head east to Sin City.

And so the Kansas City Chiefs must take advantage while they can. The Chiefs, obviously, have a much bigger goal in mind than capturing the division, but that’s where it starts. It won’t be easy in 2019, but it will easier this season than in the upcoming ones.
