KC Royals: A look back at success and a vision for the future
By Gage Stagner
By the 2023 season guys like Dozier, Soler, and Keller will be in their primes and Mondesi should just be entering his. Hopefully by this time, most of the 2018 draft choices will be ready to contribute at the major league level.
If we are taking the best-case scenario viewpoint, Perez will still be one of the best catchers in the American League and Bobby Witt Jr. will be an emerging star.
Chances are, one of Singer, Lynch, Kowar, Bubic, and Bowlan will be a top-of-the-rotation guy and the others will be middle rotation guys or very good relievers at worst. Khalil Lee will be another part of the core ready for stardom and if Merrifield still hasn’t been traded, he will be entering his age-34 season.
Here’s what the squad could look like:

The bullpen could consist of Kowar and Bowlan along with some other current minor leaguers.
There are many what if’s and much of these predictions consist on players hitting their supposed ceiling based on draft and prospect positions. While all is hypothetical, there is a world in which this team has young studs and seasoned veterans. The rotation has the potential to be dynamic with so many young arms and a stable veteran in Brad Keller.
If Royals fans are wondering when they will be jumping for joy again, this is realistically the time. Everything hinges on growth and improvement from these guys and it should be trusted that the management and coaching staff is able to get the most out of each one of them.
They have the track record and World Series ring to prove it. Just be patient as we all know how to do, unfortunately.
