The NFL offseason is at that stage where not a lot is going to happen. Of the five free agents discussed, there’s a chance that none of them will play in the league next season. And if that happens, we’ve probably seen the last of them altogether.

But those guys can still play. They can still add value to a team that believes it’s close to winning the Super Bowl.

For a team that has an extremely precious commodity lining up under center, Sullivan and Newhouse could provide the kind of depth that would keep that quarterback upright should a starter go down.

Boston and Liuget could provide veteran leadership to a defensive squad that was built on the fly, regardless of whether they start. And Gresham could become yet another decent target for the Gunslinger from Lubbock.

In the end, none of the five remaining free agents discussed are jaw-dropping talents.

With a team built like the Chiefs, odds are that none of these guys, if brought in, would move the needle much. That’s fine, though, because they wouldn’t need to do that. For all of these players except maybe Boston, who’s still only 26, providing depth, experience, and leadership would be enough at this stage in their careers.

Now, the Kansas City Chiefs just need to provide that opportunity.
