Nick Allegretti

With their last pick in the 2019 NFL draft, the Chiefs took center Nick Allegretti at 216th overall. The Chiefs really needed offensive line depth after losing Mitch Morse, a long-time starter, and backup Jeff Allen this offseason.

Allegretti was a two-year team captain at Illinois and started at center and guard. This natural leadership and position flexibility could make him a valuable depth addition to the Chiefs offensive line in 2019.

Conclusion

The Chiefs, for not having a first-round selection, did a great job of finding a few players that should contribute this season and maybe even a couple who could come away from the preseason with a starting position.

Thornhill, in particular, is a player to keep your eye on as a guy who could be a starter next season. Any time you can get a rookie starter that late in the second round you know your draft is going alright.

Add in guys like Khalen Saunders and Mecole Hardman who should earn themselves some playing time as rookies as well and that makes the draft look even more like a success. Nick Allegretti and Darwin Thompson seem like 53-man roster locks as well as backups and Thompson could even rotate in for some playing time if he has a good offseason.
