Dedric Lawson

Forward Dedric Lawson has put on an incredible show this season and deserves most of the credit for dragging Kansas into the postseason with the #4 seed. He is “one of only two players in the NCAA Tournament to be averaging 18-plus points a game and 10-plus rebounds a game,” according to the Kansas City Star.

His leading the conference in points and rebounds and being the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double was good to earn him the All-Big 12 First Team and Newcomer of the Year accolades, and this level of play will be key for Kansas in this tournament.

Lawson simply cannot afford to have a poor game if the team wants to win. His ability as the go-to scorer yet also the best assister carries the team; his high basketball IQ allows him to create his own shot or create it for someone else, and there aren’t many defenders who can effectively stop him one-on-one.

As impressive as his play has been thus far, his teammates believe he’s got another level.

"“He’s put on such a performance,” said freshman starting forward David McCormack to WIBW. “It’s hard to say but I can still see him tapping into another level of just pumping energy into the team and embracing that dog side of him.”"

Lawson, especially when alongside teammate and second-leading scorer Devon Dotson, is dangerous, but more of the supporting cast will have to step it up in order for the team to succeed at the highest level this month.
