Mizzou Football: Ten NFL landing spots for Drew Lock
By Cullen Jekel
In the end, where is Mizzou’s best ever quarterback (sorry, Gabbert) going to play professionally?
I don’t see the Giants taking Drew Lock in the first round. Barring any trade, the Giants will have the pick of the top three quarterbacks in the draft. While it’s entirely too early to say which of Haskins, Murray, and Lock will have the best NFL career, right now, Lock isn’t considered third among of the trio.

The brass in Jacksonville has too much riding on 2019 to use the seventh overall pick on a rookie quarterback that the team wouldn’t entrust to start next season.
While the Lions general manager stated he would entertain drafting a quarterback in the first round, don’t expect it to actually happen if the Lions stay at number eight. If they trade down, maybe. But that Stafford contract is practically unmovable. A better bet would be for Detroit to look to 2020 to grab the quarterback of the future.
Denver and Cincinnati could afford to take Lock and sit him for a year while Flacco and Dalton, respectively, play 2019. Meanwhile, Miami and Washington would most likely start whomever they draft as their next quarterback. In different iterations of mock drafts, Lock has been connected to Denver, Miami, and Washington.
As for Oakland, I don’t see it, for the reasons described in their section: Gruden and Mark Davis are waiting to land a bigger name just in time for the franchise’s move to Las Vegas. There’s no point in playing too competitively before then.
Lock to the Chargers or Patriots would make sense for both teams as he wouldn’t be pressed into duty any time soon (barring injury, of course). But he probably won’t be around as late as number 28, let alone pick 32.
The three teams to watch are the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and Washington Redskins. To narrow that trio down, I’d say Denver or Miami. Both teams have new head coaches and secure front offices, and so 2019 isn’t must-win.
With the Broncos, Lock would sit behind Flacco in 2019. With the Dolphins, he’d be baptized in fire.
Here’s hoping for Miami.
