The Kansas City Chiefs’ season wrapped up over the weekend with a loss in the AFC Championship Game. That means it’s time to start scanning all of the mock drafts! KC is linked to a cornerback in a recent mock.

John Clayton released his 2019 NFL Mock Draft on the Washington Post and had the Kansas City Chiefs selecting Georgia cornerback Deandre Baker with the 29th overall pick. This would be a pick that most fans would be perfectly fine with, as the Chiefs desperately need help in the secondary.

Clayton wrote on his pick for the Chiefs,

"The Chiefs had pass coverage issues throughout the season, and it cost them in their AFC championship game loss to the Patriots. They need to invest in a cornerback, and Baker, who played plenty of man coverage for Georgia in the SEC, could be a good option."

Well, Clayton wasn’t wrong with what he said. The Chiefs did have problems against the pass and in today’s pass-happy NFL, that’s not going to fly for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Baker spent four years at Georgia and compiled 116 tackles, 23 defended passes, and seven interceptions during that time. As Clayton mentioned, he played his fair share of man coverage while with the Bulldogs and the Chiefs could certainly use an experienced corner to toss into their secondary.

Kendall Fuller is a solid corner, but Orlando Scandrick proved he isn’t the answer. Charvarius Ward had his ups and downs at the position. Steven Nelson may or may not be back in 2019. The Chiefs need to address the cornerback woes in the early rounds of the draft, so this would be a selection that fans would be just fine with.

As for the rest of the AFC West, Clayton had the Broncos taking Duke quarterback Daniel Jones tenth overall, the Chargers going with Jeffery Simmons, a defensive lineman out of Mississippi State with the 28th overall pick.

For the Raiders’ three picks, Clayton linked them to defensive end Clelin Ferrell of Clemson, defensive end Zach Allen of Boston College, and wide receiver Marquise Brown of Oklahoma.

The draft is three months away, but it’s hard to pass up on mock drafts. Deandre Baker would be a nice addition to a secondary that desperately needs help.

What do you think about this pick, Chiefs fans? Would you be okay with the Chiefs drafting Baker or would you want them to go with another position?
