Cases could be made for why these guys deserve the most prestigious individual award in the sport, but when push comes to shove, Patrick Mahomes would get my vote.

I don’t play the homer card either. If I felt like Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, or one of the defensive guys deserved the award the most, I’d say so.

It’s hard not to consider Mahomes the best player in the league this year. Without him, the Chiefs aren’t 12-4 and they’re definitely not the one seed heading into the playoffs.

More from KC Kingdom

If the Saints don’t have Drew Brees this season, that run game and their defense is good enough to give them a decent season. While it’s not a 13-3 campaign, which is what the Saints ended up, they more than likely win the NFC South this year due to it being one of the weaker units in 2018.

That’s another check in Mahomes’ column. The AFC West was highly competitive this year and came down to the final game of the year to be clinched. Had the Chiefs lost in week 17, they’d be a Wild Card with a 12-4 record. Mahomes was able to overcome those odds and get his team the division title.

Most Chiefs fans will probably get mad that this article is even being written, but we can’t automatically assume Patrick Mahomes wins the MVP award. He’s a great player, but Drew Brees has had a fantastic season too, and the fact that he’s 39 years old and still playing at a high level could sway the voters in his favor.

If Mahomes wins it, he’ll be the first member of the Kansas City Chiefs to ever be named Most Valuable Player. It’s about damn time KC has the best player in the league.
