The Kansas City Chiefs have lost their last two games, but are still in the driver’s seat in the AFC playoffs. What do the rest of the seedings look like?
There’s just one regular season game remaining for the Kansas City Chiefs, but they still control their own destiny at the moment. They had some help over the weekend with the Chargers losing on Saturday and the Texans dropping a close game earlier on Sunday.
While there is an AFC match-up taking place on Monday Night Football, it’s between two teams who are out of playoff contention. That means we can safely look at the AFC playoff picture without any changes taking place after Monday’s game wraps up.
- Kansas City Chiefs (11-4) – BYE

Wow! There was some drama this week in the standings and only two teams now remain IN THE HUNT when it comes to the AFC playoffs.
I mentioned earlier how the Texans lost on Sunday, which dropped them from the two-seed to the three-seed. The Patriots unfortunately moved up to the two-seed because of course they did.
Another big shake-up was the Ravens taking control of the AFC North and the Steelers currently sitting on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. The Steelers lost a close game in New Orleans while the Ravens took it to the Chargers in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Speaking of Los Angeles, they could have sat in the driver’s seat in the playoffs, but the loss still has them firmly in the five-seed. They’d travel to Baltimore if the playoffs started tomorrow.
As for the other Wild Card team, the Colts jumped into the six spot! They’re still in the running to win the AFC South, but they’ll have to get some help in order for that to happen. Indy plays at Tennessee on Sunday Night Football next week and the winner of that game will be in the playoffs while the loser will be watching from their couches.
The standings had looked the same throughout most of the season, but there were big time changes in week 16, which is exciting! Had the Chargers won, the Chiefs would be in the five spot right now, but the good news is that Kansas City still controls their own destiny. Speaking of that, let’s take a look at the week 17 match-ups for everyone.

- Chargers at Broncos
- Colts at Titans
All the Chiefs have to do is beat the Raiders and they’ll win their third straight AFC West title and will have home field throughout the postseason. The Patriots need to win and have the Chiefs to lose to clinch home field advantage.
The Texans have to win to secure the AFC South title and the three-seed, though they can get the top seed if both the Chiefs and Patriots lose. The Ravens look tough right now, but they fell to the Browns earlier this season. Can they beat them in round two?
Speaking of round two, LA will get a rematch against the Broncos, a team they lost to weeks ago. That loss has cost the Chargers the one seed at the moment, so you better believe they’ll be motivated to kick some Bronco butt next weekend.
Lastly, I mentioned that the Colts and Titans will be the final regular season game on television, getting the Sunday night slot. Winner goes to the playoffs, loser misses out.
So, Chiefs Kingdom, do the good guys hold onto the one seed?
