The Kansas City Chiefs are licking their wounds after they suffered their first home loss of the season to the Los Angeles Chargers. I’m still never going to be used to calling them Los Angeles, but I digress.

Major playoff implications stood in the balance when the two faced one another last Thursday night. Had the Kansas City Chiefs held on, all they would’ve had to have done is win one of their last two remaining games, which includes a home match against the woeful Oakland Raiders in week 17.

In the most cliche, coaches speak way possible, Kansas City still controls their own destiny, but they now must win a tricky game at Seattle against a decent Seahawks squad. If Kansas City wins out, then the race for the one-seed is over and done.

So for arguments sake of this article, let’s just assume the Chiefs hold onto that one-seed for this week’s edition of scariest opponents in the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5-1 and currently the 4th seed)

The drama filled Steelers were able to exorcise some demons last Sunday afternoon at Heinz Field. After suffering a confusing loss to the Oakland Raiders the week before, the Steelers gutted out a low scoring affair against the New England Patriots.

Tom Brady and company has had the Steelers’ number over the last several seasons including in the playoffs. The Steelers defense was in Brady’s face all afternoon, pressuring him off his spot and forcing him to throw a crucial and ugly looking interception right before half time that cost the Patriots points.

It’s hard to say which Steelers team will show up each Sunday, but there’s no denying they’ve got a good enough defense to win them some games in the postseason.

Pro Bowl running back James Conner is still dealing with a high ankle sprain that’s likely going to keep him sidelined in their crucial game this weekend in New Orleans. There’s a chance that when I write my week 17 edition, the Steelers won’t even be in the playoffs anymore.
