Nebraska football did well on Early Signing Day on Wednesday, landing some big names that can help the Huskers for many years to come. Who all did Big Red add to their ranks?

Nebraska football did well on early Signing Day in 2018, welcoming in (to this point) 25 signees to the program, according to Rivals.com. Rivals has Nebraska ranked 18th in the 2019 rankings.

As of now, Nebraska has eight signees who were four-star recruits as well as some other big time gets for the program.

  • Desmond Bland – OL*
  • Dedrick Mills – RB*
  • Nick Henrich – LB
  • Ty Robinson – DE
  • Rahmir Johnson – RB
  • Wandale Robinson – RB
  • Jackson Hannah – LB
  • Jamie Nance – WR
  • Luke McCaffrey – QB
  • Brant Banks – OL
  • Jimmy Fritzsche – OL
  • Darian Chase – WR

Nebraska did a good job in getting this group of recruits to come play in Lincoln next year and beyond. Ty Robinson chose Nebraska over powerhouse Alabama while Jimmy Fritzsche opted to play for the Huskers over staying in his home state of South Carolina and playing for Clemson.

The two names on the list who haven’t signed yet are Desmond Bland and Dedrick Mills. The consensus with Mills appears to be that he will be signed by Friday, but still has some stuff he has to handle prior to signing.

The biggest name out of this bunch is probably Ty Robinson, who as I mentioned above, had some big time schools recruiting him. Robinson is the fifth best defensive end in Arizona and the 13th best at the position, according to Rivals. At 6’6″ and 275 pounds, he’s someone that can immediately pack a punch on the defense.

Jimmy Fritzsche is another guy who can hopefully come in and help mold the offensive line into a solid unit down the stretch. Rivals has Fritzsche as the 21st best offensive lineman in the state of South Carolina and at 6’7″ and 255 pounds, it’s not difficult to see why he’d be ranked that high. Nebraska getting him over in-state school Clemson is massive.

While we all knew Wandale Robinson had already committed, he’s now officially signed with Nebraska and that’s exciting! Robinson had initially committed to Kentucky, but de-committed a few weeks ago and announced he’d be attending Nebraska.

Robinson was ranked as the best running back in the state of Kentucky and the tenth best at his position, according to Rivals.com. This guy, paired with Maurice Washington, is going to light the world on fire next season!

I haven’t mentioned Luke McCaffrey yet, but he’s going to be a great addition too. Adrian Martinez will obviously be the quarterback, but McCaffrey provides insurance at the position and can take over and run with it after Martinez’s time in Lincoln is up.

Lastly, four of these 25 signees are from the state of Nebraska, which is always good for the program to add in-state talent. Nick Henrich, one of the four-star recruits, is from Omaha and chose to stay in his home state, so good job to Scott Frost and the rest of the staff for keeping good talent in the state of Nebraska!

All in all, this was a successful Signing Day for Nebraska football. They got several players who will be able to come in and contribute right away and others who will eventually get their shot and hopefully be great when they do.

Go Big Red!
