The Kansas City Chiefs lost a last second game to the Chargers on Thursday night and for those who didn’t think so beforehand, it’s now evident that the Chiefs can’t go the distance with this defense.

Some might read the title and think I’m bitter over Thursday night’s loss, but let’s just say it, everyone… The Kansas City Chiefs defense is awful and a huge liability.

It showed big time on Thursday night against the Chargers too, especially in the final minutes of the game. Up by 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs defense proceeded to let the LA offense march down the field and score twice.

One of those two scores made it a one-point game and the Chargers smartly went for two to just end it there.

Blame the refs all you want, Chiefs fans, but the real area you should be blaming is the defense itself. If you don’t want to be in those situations, then maybe stop the opposing offense in the biggest moments of the game.

Some might point to the turnovers the Chiefs forced and that’s all fine and dandy. Some might also point to the Chiefs holding the Chargers to seven points in the first half. Well, the game doesn’t end after the first half, so find another selling point if that’s what you’re going to roll with please.

It looked like KC was going to run away with this one early on thanks to those interceptions, but when push came to shove, the game came down to the Chiefs defense and they couldn’t stop the Chargers from winning the game.

The playoffs are when teams with explosive offenses and bad defenses are truly exposed. Yes, last year’s Super Bowl was a shootout, but the Eagles won because their defensive front made more plays than the Patriots’ defensive front.

Look at the teams in playoff contention now.

  • The Chargers have a great defense.
  • The Saints have a great defense.
  • The Cowboys have a great defense.
  • The Ravens have a great defense.
  • The Seahawks have a great defense.
  • The Texans have a great defense.
  • The Bears have a great defense.

These teams might not have the best offenses, but their defenses are good enough to help them make it through the playoffs. While the Kansas City Chiefs have the best offense in the league, we saw on Thursday night that when their offense looks normal, their defense can’t step up and help them get the W.

The secondary was garbage after Eric Berry left (and I agree with him not being in there – The Chiefs have to keep him healthy) and the run defense has been a liability all year. The Chargers were doing whatever they wanted to in the final minutes of the game and that proved to be the difference.

Oh and to make matters worse, Kendall Fuller is having surgery. So there’s that.

All right, Chiefs Kingdom, let’s hear it. How are you going to defend the Chiefs defense this week?
