When Nebraska basketball missed the 2018 NCAA Tournament, Cornhusker fans weren’t happy. Nebraska’s issue, however, was that they lacked big wins. They’re already shattering that label in the 2018-2019 season.

Nebraska basketball is only seven games into the 2018-2019 campaign and they have two impressive wins to show for it. The Huskers, 6-1, have taken down Seton Hall and Clemson already this season, both of those squads making the big dance a season ago.

We’ll start with the most recent win, which took place Monday night in Clemson. Nebraska won the game by two points over the 2018 five-seeded Clemson Tigers and it was most definitely a big win for the Cornhuskers.

James Palmer Jr. led the Huskers with 20 points while Isaac Copeland had 16 and Glynn Watson Jr. had 12 points on the evening. These three guys are going to be huge factors in Nebraska getting to the tournament this season.

The win over Seton Hall took place last week and the Huskers flat out decimated the Pirates in Lincoln. It was an 80-57 win for the Cornhuskers, with Palmer going for 29 points, Copeland for 18, and Watson for 14. Again, these three guys are SO pivotal for the Huskers in 2018-2019.

The loss to Texas Tech last week in Kansas City was an ugly one for Nebraska, but they’ve rebounded (no pun intended) quite nicely. The Cornhuskers needed to play tougher opponents this year after not doing so a season ago.

So far, Nebraska has played three 2018 tournament teams and gone 2-1 against them. They sit at 6-1 on the season and very well could be in consideration to be ranked when the next standings are released next week.

Nebraska’s next tough game will be against Creighton on December 8th. The Blue Jays are almost always a tournament team and for a long time, were the better hoops program in the state of Nebraska. Now, however, this will actually be a competitive match-up and one that the Cornhuskers should be able to win.

As I mentioned a few times, Nebraska has three big time players that need to show up in each and every game. Those guys are James Palmer Jr., Isaac Copeland, and Glynn Watson Jr. In the Huskers’ two big wins this season, the three all scored double digit points. In the loss to Texas Tech, Watson had just six points while the other two got into double digits.

This could be a special season for Nebraska basketball and with so many of these players being seniors, this is the year for the Huskers to make a run come March. Go Big Red!
