Kansas State Football took care of business on Saturday in their final home game of the year and can still become bowl eligible. All that stands in their way is a road game at Iowa State next weekend.

Prior to this season, the Kansas State Wildcats have made it to a bowl game for eight consecutive years. That streak is in jeopardy of being snapped, however, as the Wildcats have one more game remaining and have to win it in order to go bowling next month.

This has been a season full of ups and downs, but despite all of that, the Wildcats can still make it to a bowl game. It won’t be easy though, as K-State will have to knock off ranked Iowa State on the road in order to reach six wins, the amount of wins it takes to participate in a bowl game.

The last time Kansas State didn’t partake in bowl season was in the 2009 season, which was Bill Snyder’s first year back after retiring four years prior. Snyder had his Cats right back in bowl action the next year though and since then, KSU has gone to a bowl game every year.

Iowa State lost to Texas on Saturday, likely eliminating them from the Big 12 Conference title game. Even with that loss, however, the Cyclones are still a tough team. After a slow start to the season, they managed to turn things around and get back to their winning ways and find themselves in the top 25 rankings.

Iowa State sits at 6-4 on the year and have already punched their ticket to a bowl game. The reason they’re behind in games played this year is due to their first game of the year being postponed, meaning the Cyclones scheduled a cupcake opponent for December 1st.

That game is technically the final game of the season for Iowa State, but this weekend will be treated as the true Senior Day (or night rather, since the game will be played 6:00 PM). That right there will have the Cyclones amped up and if they can keep the Cats out of a bowl game this year, that’s even more motivation for ISU.

Iowa State played Kansas State tough even when they weren’t a formidable opponent. Now that they’re a good team, expect the Cyclones to put up quite the fight and do whatever they can to snap Kansas State’s bowl streak.

Kansas State only has themselves to blame for being in this predicament. They had winnable games against Texas, Baylor, TCU and came up short in all three of those. If the Wildcats win even just one of those games, they’re bowl eligible right now and fans aren’t as concerned for next week’s outcome.

While it’d obviously be nice to see K-State continue their streak, this year’s team has been so inconsistent so we have no idea what team will show up against Iowa State next week. Will the Wildcats get the job done and get to six wins?
