The difference is that the Chiefs, while a dominant team in the regular season over the years, have not been a good playoff team at all.

They’ve gone 1-4 under Reid in the postseason and the one win they got was against a Brian Hoyer-led Texans squad that had no business being in the playoffs in the first place.

More from KC Kingdom

In order for the fans to REALLY buy in (and I’m sure many have already), the Chiefs have to go above and beyond this year and:

  1. Win not only the AFC West, but home field advantage throughout the playoffs
  2. Put that higher seed to good use and actually advance come January

We’ve seen some freaky stuff happen with the Chiefs in the playoffs, but now Mahomes is at the helm and it’s an entirely different team. It just feels different this year too, as the Chiefs are blowing out opponents left and right.

The first hurdle for the Chiefs was to get back to their winning ways, which they’ve now done six straight years. The second hurdle was winning a playoff game, which as much as we don’t really count the Texans win, a win is a win.

The third hurdle was winning the division, which they have now done back to back years and need to make it three straight for this fan base to really go bananas. The next hurdle is being a dangerous team in the playoffs and not flaking out after one game like they have been prone to do.

While we’ll all ride and die with the Chiefs, it’s time for them to get over the hump and make some noise in the playoffs. They can dominate in the regular season, so let’s see that carry over into the postseason!
