Kansas football was embarrassed by Iowa State on Saturday and now there are rumors surrounding the program, as David Beaty has reportedly been relieved of his duties at KU.

One week removed from their upset win over TCU, the Kansas Jayhawks might be making a change at the head coaching position. Soren Petro of 810 WHB tweeted on Saturday afternoon that David Beaty is no longer KU’s head coach.

Kansas was flat-out embarrassed by the Iowa State Cyclones in Lawrence on Saturday to the tune of 27-3. The stadium was filled with mostly Iowa State fans and the Jayhawks couldn’t muster up much of anything offensively.

If the rumors are true, Petro tweeted that the news would be official within 24 hours. There’s no word anywhere else yet.

Just last week, I wrote an article on how the victory over TCU could have been enough to save Beaty’s job. It does seem surprising that the Jayhawks would relieve Beaty of his duties after notching a conference victory, but perhaps the 27-3 blowout at home was the final straw.

Beaty went winless in his first year at the helm in 2015, won two games in 2016 (including that stunner over Texas), and notched just one victory in 2017. This year the Jayhawks have three wins already, which is the most in Beaty’s tenure in Lawrence.

The fact that Beaty had improved the team’s win total gave me confidence that the program would keep him around for one more year. On the other hand, however, having just three wins in your fourth year in charge isn’t exactly good.

Should these rumors be true, Clint Bowen would be my guess as to who takes over. Doug Meachem was fired as the offensive coordinator last month, making Bowen the best option. Bowen is the assistant head coach as well as the defensive coordinator.

There’s been speculation (by Petro) that Les Miles could takeover and that Beaty will continue to be on the sidelines this season. If that’s the case, this news could be premature, but the word is out there.

This time last week, KU fans were excited about their football team winning a conference game. Now, just a week later, the head coach could be out and yet another person might be coming in and taking over. When will Kansas figure things out at the head coach position? Will they ever?
