The Kansas City Royals don’t have many free agents hitting the market this winter, but these three mentioned are the biggest names coming out of their franchise.

It’s worth noting that both Lucas Duda and Jon Jay appeared on Heyman’s list, but I left them off. At least in Moustakas’ and Herrera’s cases, both are still highly thought of by Royals fans. That’s not the case with Duda or Jay.

Moose will get the largest deal, but with both Donaldson and Machado on the market, Moustakas will probably be waiting a bit before he gets many offers. He shouldn’t have to go through what he did a year ago after proving he could have back-to-back good seasons, but you never know in MLB free agency.

As for Herrera, injuries hurt his stock tremendously. He was doing very well with the Royals in the first half of 2018, but after landing with the Nationals, he wasn’t the same guy. Herrera had just three saves in D.C. with an ugly 4.34 ERA to go along with those few saves.

Closers have a short shelf life and that might be the case with Herrera. He’d be the likeliest candidate to return to Kansas City out of this bunch, as the bullpen needs help and he genuinely seemed upset when the team traded him.

Alcides Escobar is a great bench player and that’s the type of contract he’ll be getting in the offseason. While it wouldn’t shock me if he somehow returned to KC, the Royals will hopefully decide to move on from Esky once and for all.

It’ll be interesting to see how these three guys do on the free agent market. Will they get decent deals or will this be a repeat of last winter?
