Kansas City Chiefs: Possible trade targets for Chiefs at deadline
By John McCarty
Positions ignored by the Kansas City Chiefs during offseason and draft are now issues that the organization may chose to address at the trade deadline. Who could they possibly target?
There are several players that possibly could interest the Kansas City Chiefs as the trade deadline nears. After just missing out on landing Seattle’s Earl Thomas before an injury ended his season, there has been speculation among fans about the Chiefs possibly targeting other defensive players. One of the most discussed trade possibilities is Arizona cornerback Patrick Peterson.
Along with him, we’ll take a quick look at some names that could interest the Chiefs in the next week or so before the NFL trade deadline comes and goes.
We can eliminate Giants corner Eli Apple from discussion, who was sent from the Giants to the Saints in a trade. Not sure what level of impact this has on any Peterson trade discussion, but the Saints were a team mentioned often in Peterson rumors. Cross them off that list now.

POSSIBLE TRADE TARGETS FOR CHIEFS
LANDON COLLINS, SAFETY (GIANTS)
A free agent after this season, Landon Collins plays for the Giants, who appear ready to steamroll their way towards the top overall selection in the upcoming draft. The Alabama product has been a solid contributor at safety for the G-Men while on his rookie contract.
The question about acquiring any safety will be the health of Eric Berry. Collins plays strong safety, allowing Berry to play a more center field role in the back of the defense. Collins is on the last year of his rookie contract (I believe Chiefs would be on the hook for 597K for remainder of the season) so the number to acquire him would be relatively cheap.
Pro Football Focus grades the fourth year player as a 78.2 score this season, ranking him 12th in the league. Collins would certainly be an upgrade over Jordan Lucas, who isn’t awful, just inexperienced, and considering the Chiefs had wide receiver Markus Kemp practicing as an emergency safety, depth is an issue.
I’m a fan of Collins. He’s the type of player the Chiefs could target in the offseason as a free agent and getting him now could help for the playoff run. The question is what are the Giants asking for him and what can they get? Does a third round pick get it done? If so, then a trade could happen.
