Mizzou football is 3-3 after starting the year 3-0. They’ll face a non-conference opponent this weekend for their Homecoming game in the Memphis Tigers, but that doesn’t mean it’s a surefire win for Missouri.

After a 3-0 stat to the season, the Missouri Tigers have dropped three consecutive games and are 0-3 in the SEC. They’ll get a break from conference play this weekend when they welcome in the Memphis Tigers of the AAC.

While playing a school from the AAC might seem like an easy win for Missouri, I’d urge MU fans not to look at this game that way. Memphis isn’t a cupcake opponent and might give Mizzou more fits than fans are expecting.

Memphis, who is 4-3 on the year, just gave a ranked Central Florida team all they could handle and almost knocked off the Knights, losing by just one point. While UCF isn’t as highly thought of by some people due to being in a “weaker” conference”, they’ve proven to be one of the more consistent teams in college football over the past two seasons and are a good team.

Memphis battling UCF as hard as they could shows they’re not going to just roll over and let teams demolish them. Missouri, who is desperate for a win this weekend, might have their hands full with Memphis.

Memphis is led by quarterback Brady White, who has thrown 15 touchdowns to just one interception thus far this season. Running back Darrell Henderson has been a stud carrying the football, taking the rock 110 times for 1,133 yards and 13 touchdowns through seven games.

In other words, the Memphis Tigers have a good offense and we’ve seen that the Missouri Tigers don’t have a good defense. This could not only be a shootout, but could even be a game that Memphis has the lead in frequently.

As of now, Mizzou is favored by nine and a half points, according to Odds Shark. When I first saw those odds, I was a little surprised it was that big of a swing for MU. I know SEC football is better than AAC football, but Memphis put up a hell of a fight last week and could pose more of a problem than people are expecting.

When it comes to trap games, this weekend’s Homecoming match-up against the Memphis Tigers screams of a trap game. Remember – Missouri did lose to Middle Tennessee two years ago so they’re not immune to losing to smaller conferences.

The Missouri Tigers are desperate for a win and this is their final non-conference game of the season, so hopefully they can churn out a victory against a tough non-Power Five school.
