Mizzou Football has nothing to lose and everything to gain vs Alabama

Mizzou football is coming off two straight losses and it’s not looking great for them to break that losing streak this weekend, as the Tigers have a date with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.

Coming into the 2018 season, there was hope for Mizzou football to be a relevant team in the SEC this year. The Tigers were heading into the fourth and final year with Drew Lock as their quarterback, they finally got some momentum built up last season, and the schedule didn’t look too menacing.

The most difficult game, however, now comes at the worst possible time for the Missouri Tigers. After starting off 3-0, MU has dropped their last two games and are 0-2 in the conference. They’ll now travel to Tuscaloosa to face the reigning National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide, who are absolutely bulldozing everyone they’ve faced this year.

To put it politely, Missouri is a big time underdog in this weekend’s game and it’ll take next to a miracle for them to pull out a victory. They’re already nearly 30 point underdogs in the gambling world and no one is surprised by that.

The bad news is obviously everything I’ve said already. Alabama is the best team in the nation by a mile and the Missouri Tigers aren’t even close to being on their level.

That being said, however, there’s no pressure on Mizzou for all of those reasons. The Tigers are 3-2 and have virtually no shot at making any kind of noise in the SEC this year. Because of that, they can go into this game carefree knowing they have nothing to lose should they get curb stomped by the reigning champs.

Alabama, on the other hand, has everything to lose. They’re ranked number one in the country and haven’t had to play in a close game yet this season. Should MU be able to hang with them (and we know the Tigers offense can make plays), the Crimson Tide might not be rolling as much as they have been throughout the year.

I’m not suggesting that Missouri is going to beat the Crimson Tide, but it’s very possible that the Tigers give Bama more of a scare than college football fans are expecting. No one is giving MU much of a chance to even be competitive in this game, but sometimes a team with nothing to lose is the scariest team to face.

Hopefully the Tigers put up somewhat of a fight and don’t let the Tide roll right over them. If they lose, however, they’ll be 3-3 on the year. The schedule opens up a bit after that, which is certainly good news for Mizzou fans.

If, somehow, Missouri pulls out a miraculous win on Saturday, then everything we thought we knew about this team goes out the window. The Tigers lost by two touchdowns to Georgia and then narrowly lost to South Carolina, who had a backup quarterback starting the game.

No one gave Missouri much of a chance against the Georgia Bulldogs either, but the Tigers beat themselves that day by turning the ball over so many times. They were hanging with the Bulldogs throughout most of the game though, so it’s possible for Missouri to give good teams a scare.

Can the Tigers give the Tide a scare on Saturday? Hopefully it’s not a total beatdown by the reigning champs and Mizzou football can give us a pleasant surprise.
