Kansas City Chiefs: Weather could be huge factor in week five

The Kansas City Chiefs host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday and the weather in this game could be a deciding factor in the outcome.

It’s always fun hosting games at Arrowhead Stadium, but this weekend’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars could be problematic for the Kansas City Chiefs. It will be raining basically all day in Kansas City on Sunday and for a Chiefs team that likes to throw the ball, that could be an issue.

There are other reasons as to why the weather could make things tough for the Chiefs, but yes, the main one is that the rain could limit teams from airing it out more than they’d like. That’s been the Chiefs’ bread and butter to this point in the season.

The Jaguars will have the advantage if it’s simply a day of running the football. Leonard Fournette might not be playing, but T.J. Yeldon is a decent backup and we’ve all seen how bad the Chiefs run defense has been through the first four weeks. If the Jaguars keep handing the ball off, this could be a long day for the Chiefs.

Jacksonville is in the top half of the league against the run, so if Kareem Hunt can’t get going, again… It’ll be a long day for Kansas City Chiefs fans. Hunt had a good week on the ground last week though, so that’s reason to be optimistic for sure.

More from KC Kingdom

Another reason why the bad weather could sway things in Jacksonville’s favor is that less fans are likely to show up and scream their tails off when it’s a monsoon outside. The temperature being in the 50s doesn’t help much either.

No one really wants to get rained on and be cold and miserable all day. I went to the Royals’ Opening Day this year and it was exactly that: Raining, cold, and miserable, plus the Royals lost. No thank you.

Hopefully Chiefs Kingdom is fearless and decides to show up to the game and be loud and supportive. The Chiefs need the crowd noise and this is a huge game for both teams.

If KC wins, they’re 5-0 for the second straight year. If Jacksonville wins, they’re 4-1 and will be in control of their own destination in the AFC (yes, I’m already talking playoffs).

While rainy games are (sometimes) fun for the fans to watch at home, it could make for a not so fun day of football for the KC Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is a gun slinger and we want to see him throw the ball, which could be tough in this kind of weather.

When the game is taken out of Mahomes’ hands (or arm, rather), the Jaguars already have the advantage heading into the game. Hopefully I’m wrong and the Chiefs can still sling it down the field. This a huge game after all!
