Kansas City Royals: Former Royals in 2018 postseason
The Kansas City Royals’ 2018 season is over with, but there are still teams vying for a World Series title. How many former Royals are participating in the postseason this year?
We all remember how much fun it was watching the Kansas City Royals in the postseason in 2014 and 2015. While the boys in blue have now missed the playoffs in three straight seasons, there are plenty of former Royals in the MLB postseason that fans can latch onto and root for.
The Wild Card games are finished with the Cubs and Athletics being the first two teams knocked out of the playoffs. Both of those teams had a few Royals (notably Terrance Gore and Ben Zobrist, both on the Cubs), but they will not be getting a shot at the 2018 World Series title.
Now we turn our attention to the divisional series with the NLDS beginning on Thursday and the ALDS beginning on Friday. Who are some notable Royals to watch for this October? Let’s take a look team by team, starting with the only American League team that has any former Royals on it.

FORMER ROYALS IN 2018 POSTSEASON
CLEVELAND INDIANS – MELKY CABRERA
There’s just one former Royal on the Cleveland Indians roster and it’s Melky Cabrera. Cabrera spent all of 2011 with the Royals and the last half of 2017 in Kansas City as well.
The Royals made the decision to trade for Cabrera in 2017 when they were on a hot streak, but found out shortly after that it wouldn’t make a difference. The Royals missed out on the playoffs, but having Cabrera back was fun, even if just for a little bit.
Cabrera signed with the Indians earlier this season and has fared nicely with them, batting .280 in the regular season. He hit six home runs and 39 RBI with Cleveland.
It shouldn’t be too surprising that there’s just one former Royal in Cleveland considering they’re in the same division. While rooting for a fellow AL Central team could be considered treason by some, Cabrera being with the Indians might give new money Royals fans a reason to pull for Cleveland this October.
