Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes continues to answer his critics
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas City Chiefs gunslinger has led the Chiefs to a 4-0 record in 2018. Game by game he answers his critics with astounding play and leadership.
The Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0 and the last unbeaten team in the AFC. Thanks in large part to the heroics of Patrick Mahomes.
With each grand performance, he is let with more and more critics trying desperately to find a way to weaken what he has done so far. How does Mahomes handle it? By answering his critics with his play on the field.
Pat has had to prove his critics wrong since before he was drafted. The obvious knock an opinion on him pre-draft painted him as a “system” quarterback. The type of system that hadn’t succeeded at the next level.

What those critics didn’t account for was the team and coach that would end up trading up to get him. Andy Reid and the Chiefs not only thought he would be the perfect quarterback for them but thought they’d be perfect for him. They were right.
Through three games and two Offensive Player of the Week awards, some critics still weren’t buying into Mahomes.
“Wait until he plays a good defense. Wait until he has to fight through adversity. Let’s see how he does in a raucous environment. He can’t throw left handed.”
Check. Check. Check. Checkmate. He answered all those comments in one game. What might have been his worst game of the season so far, he had his best performance. Mahomet had a game that generations will be talking about.
Monday Night Football in Denver. AFC West foes battling against each other. A tough defense from Denver. Down by 10 with less than 8 minutes remaining. No problem.
Now, Mahomes and the Chiefs won’t go undefeated, probably. They will lose some games. He will eventually throw some interceptions. No matter what he does or does not do, there will be those that refuse to acknowledge what he has done.
It wasn’t that he came back from 10 down to win a division game on the road in primetime. It was how he did it.
Throwing for 192 yards outside of the pocket, something that hadn’t been done in a decade. Throwing left-handed while the leagues best pass rusher is hanging on for dear life.
His precision passing, scrambling, decision making, playmaking, and just his sheer will to win were on full display Monday night.
There will be more to come from the anti-Mahomes clan. They will nitpick and paid every little detail of Pat’s game. The sweet thing of it all, Mahomes will answer them.
His confidence is through the roof. He has his team under his wing. He has a city and a fanbase willing to go to war with him. Patrick Mahomes has gone well above and beyond expectations.
