Kansas State Football: Wildcats make desperation move at quarterback

Kansas State Football is at the end of its rope. The Skylar Thompson experiment is over for now as Alex Delton takes over against the Texas Longhorns.

Things haven’t gone the Wildcats way this season. The internal high expectations have been washed away through the first four weeks of the season. Kansas State Football is in desperation mode.

This doesn’t mean the season is lost for the Wildcats. It simply means that the staff understands there is a problem.

Alex Delton will start for the Wildcats this weekend against the Texas Longhorns. A team that Bill Snyder has had retry good success against in the past.

Now, Skylar Thompson was not the problem. He may have been an ingredient towards the demise, but he was not alone.

If the Wildcats are benching due to lack of production, then Alex Barnes should sit out too. So should the offensive line and over half of the starting defensive 11.

Thompson played decent against West Virginia. It wasn’t him, but the play calling. Thompson went 11-17 for 145 yards. In that game, Kansas State played from behind the entire game. The run game was not helpful. Those passing attempts should have been upwards of 30, not 17./

Thompson did have some fumbles this year, but he has only thrown one interception so far.

Neither Thompson nor Delton has had time to let plays develop. The offensive line has been underwhelming, to say the least.

So what is Bill Snyder expecting from Delton? It’s possible he believes that Delton offers more playmaking ability. Thompson had been very vanilla so far at the quarterback position.

In case you are wondering, Delton’s numbers are anything but something to get excited about. He’s completed under 50% of his attempts for 249 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Delton doesn’t need to go out there and score from 50 yards out each time, he simply needs to lead his team down the field. The offensive plays need to develop faster. The offensive line needs to at least slow the defenders down, and the defense needs to step up on occasion.

Enough naysaying, Delton could indeed spark something that’s been waiting for the right fuel to be added.

If the Wildcats are working with a confident Delton, he could do some very pretty things out there on the field.
