Mizzou Football: Even after loss, Tigers primed for huge season
By Chris Taylor
Mizzou Football was brought back down to earth last weekend after they lost to No. 2 Georgia. The season still looks to be in the Tigers hands, however.
The loss against Georgia is nothing for fans of Mizzou Football to stew over. The 2018 season is still very much in their own hands.
The Tigers had been rolling through the season before the Georgia Bulldogs came strolling into Columbia, Missouri. The No. 2 ranked Bulldogs looked like the No. 2 team in the nation.
Mizzou didn’t go quietly, and some controversial calls didn’t help their case. Drew Locke had a mediocre game and the defense was unable to stop the offensive juggernaut.

The controversy couldn’t be overlooked either. When it looked like forward progress had stopped, the ball was stripped from Tigers tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and returned for a touchdown.
Later Mizzou kicked a field goal that by all accounts looked good, but was ruled a miss. Replay after replay suggests a made field goal in that spot.
The third and perhaps most controversial call came in the third quarter. Jeremiah Holloman caught a pass from Jake Fromm and took it 61 yards downfield for a score. The controversy? He clearly dropped the ball before he crossed the plane of the goal line. It was picked up by Mizzou. The touchdown held up.
These plays alone suggest a pretty big swing in the score. It might not have been enough to come away with the win, but it sure would have looked better.
Bluer skies and greener pastures
The Tigers can easily win seven of the next eight games. Using the term “easily” because they only play Alabama once.
The only other ranked team as of now that is on the schedule is Kentucky, and that game is in Columbia. That would leave the Tigers with a 10-2 record.
The Tigers look legit in 2018. Depending on how the season shapes up for the rest of the SEC, Mizzou can still find themselves playing in the SEC Championship.
Look for Mizzou to give the No. 1 ranked Crimson Tide some trouble as well on October 13th. The Tigers get a bye week at a good time, they will play South Carolina on the 6th of October.
