The Kansas City Chiefs have been a successful franchise over the last half decade, but one team that has dealt them fits has been the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Chiefs finally got a W against the black and yellow.

Well, it took 14 years, but the Kansas City Chiefs finally beat the Pittsburgh Steelers when Ben Roethlisberger played for the entire game. Since the Steelers drafted Big Ben 11th overall in 2004, he has had Kansas City’s number.

The Steelers in general have had the Chiefs’ number during that time, only losing to them twice since Big Ben became a Steeler. The first loss came in 2009 when the Chiefs were able to win the game in overtime. Roethlisberger didn’t play the entire game (Charlie Batch was his backup then – Remember Charlie Batch?), but still was effective, throwing for 398 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

After that victory against the Steelers, it took the Chiefs until 2015 before they’d take another one from Pittsburgh. In that game in 2015, Roethlisberger was injured and Landry Jones started for the Steelers. The Chiefs were 1-5, but Eric Berry‘s first interception since returning from cancer occurred in that game and that put the Chiefs on an 11-game winning streak to close out the season.

After that win, the Chiefs had lost three straight to Pittsburgh, all painful losses too. In week four of the 2016 season, the Steelers destroyed the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. That game was over before Chiefs fans could even blink.

The Chiefs had an opportunity for a rematch in the playoffs, but lost to Pittsburgh despite the Steelers never finding the end zone. Nine months later, the Chiefs were 5-0 to kick off the 2017 season, but the Steelers came to town and put the first loss on the board for the Chiefs.

The history between these two teams has shown that the Steelers definitely own the Chiefs. They have a 23-12 advantage all-time and had won five of their last seven against Kansas City, including the playoffs.

That’s why when this week two match-up took place, I had big time doubts about the Chiefs getting a win on the road in Pittsburgh against a team that has kicked them in the gonads time and time again. Even after a 21-0 first quarter lead, I still had my doubts about the Chiefs holding on for the W.

Well, the Steelers tied things up at the half, but thankfully Patrick Mahomes decided to throw for three more touchdowns. The defense let Roethlisberger torch them once again, but somehow, someway, the Kansas City Chiefs finally took one from the Pittsburgh Steelers and boy, does it feel good!

Le’Veon Bell didn’t play in this game and he’s burned the Chiefs badly in the past. Maybe not having Bell was the difference, but whatever it was, I don’t really care. I’m just glad that the Kansas City Chiefs FINALLY got over the hump when it came to their struggles against the Steelers.

Now if the Chiefs can get over the hump of playoff failures, I’ll really be a happy camper come January. Let’s take this one game at a time though and enjoy the moment. I’ll be enjoying this victory for awhile, friends.
