Kansas City Chiefs: Offense hasn’t come close to its potential
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas City Chiefs offense looked fantastic week one with only two players involved. Imagine what it will look like when others get involved.
The debut of the Mahomes era went according to plan. The Kansas City Chiefs went to LA and beat the Chargers for a 9th straight time.
Come Monday morning, the Chiefs were all the buzz around the league. Patrick Mahomes looked as advertised, Tyreek Hill looked unstoppable, and the country fell in love with this new Chiefs offense.
In reality, it was kind of a two-man show. The country hasn’t seen anything yet. Think the Chiefs offense is on fire? Just wait.

This isn’t a hot take or click bait, this is just the facts.
In what many believe could be the best offense in the league, there was quite a bit that went overlooked.
Patrick Mahomes completed 15 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns last Sunday. Of those 15 completed passes, seven of those went to Tyreek Hill. He finished with 169 yards and two touchdown receptions.
The only other receiver to catch more than one pass was Sammy Watkins, who caught three passes for 21 yards. Those aren’t impressive stats by no means.
All-pro tight end Travis Kelce had one catch for 6 yards. Chris Conley had one catch for 15 yards.
The passing game went through Tyreek Hill and Hill alone. There wasn’t one other member of that Chiefs offense that contributed last Sunday and the offense was on fire.
Heck, the running game didn’t even contribute. Last year’s leading rusher ran the ball 16 times but didn’t even attribute 50 yards on the day.
Now, imagine what this offense will look like when Kelce gets in the mix. Imagine what this offense will look like when Hunt racks up 100 yards on the ground.
For some, the only way Mahomes can live up to expectations is if he’s breaking records each week. That very well could be a possibility.
The potential for this offense to do things never before done and put up numbers never before seen is ripe.
Defenses around the league will be paying close attention to the Chiefs. The sky is the limit and the playbook has been expanded. Get ready for a wild, wild season.
