Kansas City Chiefs: Hey Chiefs Kingdom, are you not entertained
By Chris Taylor
Despite the debut of the Mahomes era and the electric start to his career, and the new offense, many Kansas City Chiefs fans can’t find happiness.
It was one of the most anticipated games in Kansas City Chiefs history. Opening day on the road, in LA, against a team the Chiefs have dominated 8(now 9) straight games. If you checked in on social media afterward, you might have been confused. Did the Chiefs win, or lose?
It’s an epidemic that carried over to Monday night as the Rams played our division rival Raiders. God forbid a former player has a good game in a different uniform.
Back to Sunday. Many Chiefs fans took to Twitter or Facebook, some took to the streets, some hit the local watering hole. The conversations at these establishments were downtrodden and depressing.
What is it with people who simply can’t see the good in things. All the hype, all the media, and all the pressure building up to week one of the NFL season, and what we saw in LA was beautiful.

All we’ve heard since then is whining and complaining about Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, the defense, Sammy Watkins, and the defense. Did I mention the defense?
Mahomes throws too hard and takes too many chances. If Philip Rivers does this, or Rivers did that. If the Charger receivers didn’t drop the ball, blah, blah, blah.
All these things have been heard since the incredible debut of Mahomes and the electric offense that the Kansas City Chiefs produced.
Good friends and colleagues have been bitten by this bug as well. Over analyzing every breath taken and every step forward or backward.
In the end, the Chiefs won the ball game.
That’s right. The Chiefs won in fantastic fashion. All the hype was real. The Chiefs are exactly who we thought they were, yet Chiefs Kingdom has lost their mind, or at least those targeted here.
Patrick Mahomes looks great. Check. Tyreek Hill is one of the greatest weapons ever to play the game. Check. The defense is not very good. Check. Teams will be able to pass on the secondary easily. Check. There aren’t enough footballs for each weapon to have 100 yards per game. Check.
Why focus on the lackluster performance of the defense when we just witnessed the future of the Chiefs before our very eyes. What Mahomes and Hill did on Sunday put NFL analysts out of their mind.
But the Chiefs paid too much money for Sammy Watkins to only catch three passes for 21 yards. He was the second leading receiver in receptions on Sunday. In fact, he was the only guy other than Hill to have more than one catch. That’s what our No. 2 receiver is supposed to do.
Travis Kelce had one catch on six targets. Watkins was targeted five times. So Sammy had a much better game than every receiver other than Hill.
So stop it. Just stop.
But Rivers had over 400 yards passing and no team gained more yards than the Chargers. This is true, but the last time I checked, the final score was 38-28, Chiefs. That is the point of the game. Score more than the other.
But Marcus Peters did well in his debut with the Rams. Of course, he did. He’s Marcus Peters. Was there any doubt? Yes, it still sucks that the Chiefs sent him packing, but my goodness, did you see your quarterback?
Instead of letting out a universal breath of fresh air that Mahomes is actually good, or that Hill is still super fast, Chiefs fans from all over took to the internet and the airwaves to focus on all the bad.
No team is perfect. The Chiefs will allow yards, and points. Probably every game from here on out. Get used to it.
Here’s something to focus on, the Chiefs will gain yards and score lots and lots of points. Get used to that!
If the Chiefs defense allowing yards surprised you, it is good to see that you finally climbed out from under that rock you’ve been living under. A few things to catch you up. Apparently, North Korea is now our friend, a billionaire potty mouth is our president, and Alex Smith went to Washington.
I for one can’t be any more excited that the Chiefs won. And it really only took two guys to do it. Mahomes and Hill.
Kelce was a no-show. Hunt ran the ball plenty but gained nothing. The defense can’t cover or tackle. All of these things were true last Sunday, and we won.
Dare I say that last season the Chiefs would have lost this game had the box score read the way it does.
It’s time to enjoy Chiefs football. They will lose some games this season, but there is one guarantee. It will be an exciting loss. Every time Mahomes drops back something great may be on the verge of happening. Each time Hill touches the ball he may take it to the house.
All I’m saying is it would be a shame if you missed out on these things because Orlando Scandrick got burned 30 plays before.
Eventually, more popular Chiefs players will be in a different uniform, it is the nature of the beast. No matter how they got there.
Don’t worry about Watkins, as of now he’s the second best receiver and the second most utilized receiver on the team. What are you whining about? Don’t worry about Kelce. He’s either or the best or second best tight end in football. Don’t worry about Hunt, he will get his yards and when he does, look out.
The Chargers did some good things, no doubt, and yes, they dropped some passes. So did some Chiefs. That’s what we call football. It’s a game of what-ifs and missed or made opportunities.
Mahomes and Hill made the most of their opportunities, fans should enjoy this opportunity themselves.
The Chiefs are doing something special. They look special. Don’t take that away.
Rant over.
