Kansas State Football: Wildcats no match for SEC’s Mississippi State
By Chris Taylor
Bill Snyder’s Kansas State Football team barely got by an FCS team last week. Against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, they looked much like an FCS team.
Kansas State Football isn’t used to high caliber teams like Mississippi State coming into Manhattan, Kansas. Judging by their play on the field, the Wildcats were heavily out-matched against a bigger, better, SEC opponent.
The Bulldogs were simply better than the Wildcats on Saturday.
The Wildcats lost the time of possession battle, which is strange for Kansas State, even in a loss. Bill Snyder did fix the penalty problem that reared its ugly head last week, Kansas State only had two penalties in the game for 15 yards.

Kansas State also fixed the turnover issue from last week as well. An interception of Alex Delton was the only turnover of the game. This time, the Wildcats struggled because the opponent was that much better.
Mississippi State racked up 538 total yards compared to the 213 yards from Kansas State. Kylin Hill ran for 211 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. The Wildcats defense struggled, no question, but this loss has more to do with the vanilla offense produced on the field.
For two straight games, Kansas State has been unable to muster any type of offensive rhythm. Skylar Thompson looks as though he has regressed since last season, once again putting up miserable numbers.
Thompson went 7/17 for 86 yards and a touchdown, averaging 5.1 yards per pass. There is literally no vertical offense for Kansas State, which won’t allow them to keep up with the offensive powers coming up on the schedule.
Alex Barnes was again, a non-factor. Last weeks hero Isaiah Zuber caught two passes for 11 yards and returned one kick for 18 yards. Delton did nothing but give the ball to the other team.
Bill Snyder will look to turn things around against Texas-San Antonio in their final non-conference game. Many had high expectations for this Wildcats team. At the moment, they may not be the best college football team in the state of Kansas.
The Wildcats have only scored two offensive touchdowns in two games. Things only get harder from here.
