The 2018 season is upon us. Does Madden 19 have the Kansas City Chiefs winning their first game in the Patrick Mahomes era? Let’s find out.

In what has been the most anticipated simulation of a Madden game, we finally get to see how the popular video game franchise has the Kansas City Chiefs fairing in their first game, post Alex Smith.

It’s the first game of the season so let’s jump right into it.

Fans didn’t need to wait long to see their new quarterback in action. The Chiefs won the coin toss and elected to receive.

The kickoff was downed in the end zone and the Chiefs offense took to the field. The Mahomes era had begun. Fans will be happy with what happened next.

On a deep curl route, Mahomes slung the ball to Tyreek Hill, who caught the ball and juked the corner out of his shoes. Tyreek Hill was gone for a 75-yard touchdown.

Throughout the remainder of the first half, the Chiefs and Chargers shared jabs back and forth but never scored any points. Both teams moved the ball fairly well but their drives stalled out before getting into field goal range.

The second half was a bit more entertaining.

The Chargers scored two touchdowns in the third quarter while the Chiefs settled for two Harrison Butker field goals. Entering the fourth quarter, the Chiefs were down 14-13.

That’s when all heck broke loose. The Chargers had just crossed the 50-yard line when Anthony Hitchens intercepted Philip Rivers.

Two plays later Kareem Hunt sprinted down the near sideline for a 42-yard touchdown run. On the ensuing kickoff, the ball was stripped from the return man and recovered by Kansas City on the 18-yard line.

Mahomes handed it off to Hunt on the next play for a touchdown. The wonderful mayhem continued for the Chiefs as the Chargers turned the ball over two more times during that fourth quarter.

  • Antonio Gates – 6 catches, 88 YDS

The Chiefs won the game in large part to the late turnovers by the Chargers. The final score was 27-14.

Mahomes had a clean, efficient game. Kareem Hunt continues to dominate the Chargers in spectacular fashion.

The major weapons were all involved for Kansas City on offense and the new additions on defense made their voices heard loud and clear. There should be no grumbling from Chiefs fans here.

It will be interesting to see if Madden predicts this one right, as many believe the Chargers are destined to win the West. For some reason.
