The season started slowly for Kansas State Football. The Wildcats are thankful they play four quarters as they recovered from uncharacteristic mistakes.
Things were looking pretty grim for Kansas State Football. South Dakota had the Wildcats on upset notice until the clock hit zero. These Wildcats may be the most undisciplined team we have ever seen Bill Snyder produce.
Fans of the Wildcats can sleep decent tonight as their team snuck by a much lesser South Dakota team. The remainder of the season may be a recurring nightmare.
Thank goodness for Isaiah Zuber. It was his 85-yard punt return touchdown and go ahead reception in the end zone that not only brought the Wildcats back but sealed the deal late.

One thing is certain, neither quarterback for the Wildcats wants the job. Both Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton proved that neither is worthy of that role. Delton finished with a QBR of 18.3, going 5/14 for 91 yards and an interception. Thompson went 8/14 for 61 yards, a touchdown pass, and an interception. His QBR was less than mediocre at 76.3.
This game doesn’t just fall on poor quarterback play, in fact, the only real positive other than Zuber stepping up was Blake Lynch, who made 4/4 field goals for the Wildcats when their drives kept stalling deep in enemy territory.
The defense looked outmatched for much of the game, easily making South Dakota look like a Power 5 school. The thing that stood out the most in this game was the sloppy play and lack of discipline.
The Wildcats lost the turnover battle 0-4, throwing two interceptions and losing two fumbles. Unacceptable against a lower class school like South Dakota.
Penalties were the other surprising issue for Bill Snyder’s Wildcats. Kansas State was penalized 13 times for 129 yards compared to five times for 35 yards.
The Wildcats are 1-0 in 2018, but the product we all saw on Saturday evening cannot compete with the Big 12 this season. If they play this way next week, we could be in for a long year.
Alex Barnes broke 100 yards but failed to impress outside of a 34-yard run. He lost both Kansas State fumbles and had a total of three on the night.
Duke Shelley led the Cats in tackles with eight and Reggie Walker managed to get the lone sack on the night.
The Wildcats welcome Mississippi State next Saturday at 11 am ct.
