The Kansas City Chiefs are limping into the offseason. Needing corner and safety help, Armani Watts makes his case to lessen the safety woes.
Armani Watts has the chance to start going into week one for the Kansas City Chiefs. Not because he’s necessarily earned it, but because the Chiefs are so thin talent-wise in the secondary.
In the final preseason game against the Packers, Watts finally made a statement, and what a statement it was.
His performance put many concerns to ease when it comes to the safety spot opposite of Berry, who also happens to be a bit banged up.

The Chiefs did absolutely nothing to fill the void left by the departures of Marcus Peters, Terrance Mitchell, and Ron Parker. Now they are grasping at straws.
Watts won’t go overlooked, however. Many thought he was a steal in last years draft. Kansas City may have gotten good value at his pick, but that value hasn’t turned into production.
Until yesterday. During the final game of preseason, Watts had a gift thrown his way. A poorly thrown ball sailed over the receivers head and dropped right into Watts’ breadbasket.
Later in the game, Watts made one of the more impressive interceptions that you will see. He looked more like a receiver driving for the ball, catching it over his shoulder, mid dive. It was an extremely hard catch to make.
He almost came up with another one even later in the game. He was on a mission.
Watts can seize an opportunity here. Injuries are the number one way to get an opportunity to make a name for yourself and possibly take a spot away from another player.
If Watts has impressed his coaching staff enough to allow the rookie from Texas A&M to start, he wont have to wait any longer to facilitate his role on this team.
When Daniel Sorenson comes back, he may not have a starting role any longer. It’s awfully early to speculate, but the talent seems to be there. The growing pains of learning the offenses will be an issue, but nothing he can’t figure out.
Watts made it clear he wants to play. He made it clear that he can play.
