FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS AKRON

NUMBER 1 – QUARTERBACK OF THE FUTURE?

I think it’s safe to say we’re all the most intrigued by how quarterback Adrian Martinez is going to perform in his first collegiate football game, and first football game since the 2016 season. Martinez was named the starter on Sunday and has all of the potential in the world to be special for the Huskers.

More from Nebraska Cornhuskers

Martinez is the first true freshman to ever start a game for Nebraska at quarterback, which only adds pressure to the situation. Fortunately, this is a game where the Huskers are heavily favored and Martinez should be able to show off his arm and running ability.

Hopefully the Huskers get a big enough lead in this game where Martinez doesn’t have to play the entire time, but fans will be aching to see big plays out of the kid. How does he handle himself in certain situations? When he makes mistakes, does he learn from them?

With Tristan Gebbia transferring earlier in the week, it’s extremely important that Martinez stays healthy and looks the part of the starting quarterback. This is his first chance to prove that he is the answer for the Cornhuskers.
