Sporting Kansas City is on a winning streak, notching another victory and three points after a 2-0 victory in Los Angeles. Sporting KC now sits second in the Western Conference.

After going over a month without a win, Sporting Kansas City has won their last two matches. Their recent victory came against LAFC and was the first time an opponent won in that stadium, which is certainly something to be proud of.

Sporting struck early against LAFC with a goal by Gerso Fernandes in the 17th minute. They added to their lead when Felipe Gutierrez was kicked in the ear in the 66th minute and SKC received a penalty kick in return. Illie Sanchez took the penalty kick and converted making it a 2-0 game and that ended up being the final score.

With this win, Sporting is back to their winning ways and hopefully that slump we saw for over a month is the last of the season. SKC tends to have a bad rough patch in the middle of the season and then usually remain competitive for the duration of the regular season. Then they lose in the first round of the playoffs.

While it’s entirely possible that happens again in 2018, fans are obviously hoping this season will be different. Hosting a playoff game would be great.

Here’s what’s trending in Sporting Kansas City news.

Sporting KC has its skeptics, but this could be where the old narrative ends [Matt Pentz, ESPN]

"The West is as fluid, and unpredictable, as it has been in years. Sporting will hope the same description applies to itself: capable of surprises and able to break from the path upon which it has so reliably trod in recent years."

"Sporting build some rhythm and move up to second place in the West, albeit against a heavily rotated LAFC side. The hosts will be disappointed to see their home unbeaten run end, but with the games coming thick and fast, Bob Bradley had little choice but to rotate."

What was most impressive about this game is that LAFC was on a roll before now. They were one of the tougher offensive units in the league and SKC shut them out on their own turf, a place where no team had beaten them in their short existence. Sporting went in, fresh off a crazy victory against Houston where three players got ejected, and left with a 2-0 shutout win.

The regular season is winding down and the Western Conference is certainly up for grabs. If SKC can continue to play their game, there’s no reason why they can’t win the conference and host a playoff game for the first time since 2013.

A playoff game at Children’s Mercy Park is much needed, as that environment is one of the best in all of Major League Soccer. It could be the difference between another Knockout Round exit and making it to the MLS Championship.
