The Kansas City Chiefs have their fair share of running backs on their roster. That might make it easier to cut Charcandrick West when the time comes.

With no C.J. Spiller on the roster this year (at least not yet, give it time), there is no surefire running back option to cut as of now. The Kansas City Chiefs have a slew of talent at the position, but that might make things easier for the team to part ways with Charcandrick West.

West joined the team in 2014 as an undrafted free agent out of Abilene Christian. He made waves in his second year, taking over for an injured Jamaal Charles. He and Spencer Ware would make a nice duo in the 2015 season that saw the Chiefs go 11-5, including a ten-game winning streak to close out the year.

In 2015, West rushed for 634 yards and four touchdowns and also was a help in the receiving game. He hauled in 20 receptions for 214 yards and a touchdown, becoming a useful double threat for the offense.

Things haven’t been as good for West since then. He’s either struggled to stay healthy or the production just hasn’t been there. He didn’t start any games last year and appeared in 13 total, missing the rest due to injury. For what it’s worth, West has missed a good chunk of training camp due to injury, which isn’t good for his sake.

West was listed as the fourth running back on the first “unofficial” depth chart that came out over the weekend. While it’s unofficial and the first one of the season, it’s not a good sign that Damien Williams is currently listed ahead of West.

The Chiefs have plenty of other options at running back, so at this point, how does it benefit them to keep Charcandrick West around? The dead money from cutting him would be $333,334, per Spotrac, which doesn’t seem too crazy in the least bit.

West hasn’t shown enough to merit keeping him around for another season. Maybe if he has himself a nice preseason the Chiefs could continue on with him, but for now, Charcandrick West is an easy veteran option for the team to part ways with in the coming weeks.

What do you think, Chiefs fans? Do you think West will be with the team come week one of the regular season or is it time to move on from him at running back?
