Kansas City Chiefs: Every single pass under scrutiny for Patrick Mahomes
By Chris Taylor
Not since Todd Blackledge in 1983 have the Kansas City Chiefs invested so much as a first round pick on a quarterback. This has caused chaos amongst fans.
Can you imagine being a quarterback that has to answer for every mistake or incomplete pass you throw? For the Kansas City Chiefs, that is exactly what Patrick Mahomes is dealing with.
The problem with being as hyped up as Mahomes, the lofty expectations that comes along with it. The hype is definitely real, and it looks like Mahomes will be a star for the Kansas City Chiefs. This puts a spotlight on his mistakes.
The world of social media has opened the doors for armchair quarterbacks and nasty opinions. The everlong epidemic for wanting people to fail thrives through these media outlets like flies on faces.

Already having the weight of a city on his shoulders, there are actually some that expect him to be flawless. For over a year now, fans have been warned. The days of keep away are over. Now, the Chiefs will be going for the jugular.
In recent weeks everyone has made an issue out of the mistakes he is making at practice, which in the words of Allen Iverson, “we are talking about practice, man”.
Practice makes perfect as the old saying goes. One learns from his mistakes. Despite Andy Reid coming out and saying himself that he wants Patrick to challenge himself and try things, the media just won’t let it go.
Never mind the well-known skill set, or the deep precision passes, or the needles he continues to thread. Fans are starting to focus on the media’s narrative. Mahomes will be fine. He’s using practice as the tool it is meant to be used for. He’s learning and adjusting every day, rarely making the same mistake twice.
Future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers throws picks in practice as well. Quite a few actually. Yet, there is no overreaction.
There is a thin cloud of nervousness coming over Chiefs Kingdom, and that’s understandable. The first preseason game is just weeks away, a whole new era is upon us, and there is plenty of unknowns that will be answered one way or the other.
Mahomes will be fine people. Until he goes out on that field as the starting quarterback, there is absolutely no reason to get worked up over some mistakes. Perhaps it’s a testament to the defense, perhaps it’s due to a route ran wrong, there are tons of scenarios to tackle as long as you don’t lower your head.
His first interception that counts will be scrutinized more than his first touchdown pass, no matter how amazing it is. Mahomes is human, partly at least.
He’s a gunslinger that isn’t afraid to take a chance, that is exactly what half of Chiefs Kingdom has been wanting, a quarterback that isn’t afraid to make those low probability passes.
Lay off No. 15 for just a few more weeks. If he gets us through the first quarter and a half of games at .500, celebrate. You have your quarterback of the future.
