Kansas City Royals fans have had their fair share of Royals rumors this season, but Mike Moustakas is still with the team. Despite the Angels losing their third baseman for the season, Moose probably isn’t LA bound.

It seemed evident that Mike Moustakas would land with the Los Angeles Angels this past offseason, but as we all know, that never happened. Moose re-signed with the Kansas City Royals and is one of the better performers on the team.

Recently it was announced that Angels infielder Zach Cozart would miss the rest of the season. Cozart had played shortstop for the Reds, but the Angels used him predominantly at third base. With Cozart being a third baseman and getting injured, of course people might speculate how the Angels would be interested in trading for Mike Moustakas.

Being the Buzz Killington that I am, I don’t see that happening. The Angels had the chance to sign Moustakas this offseason and they didn’t bite. If they traded for Moose, it’d be a rental (as Cozart should return next season) and it’s unlikely they’d be willing to pony up with some prospects for a short-term rental.

Another angle to look at is that, as of Thursday evening, the Angels are sitting at 41-40. They’re fourth in the American League West and currently sit 12.5 games back of the division-leading Astros. The Halos aren’t even necessarily all that close to contending for a Wild Card spot either, sitting 9.5 games back of the second Wild Card position.

If the Angels were second in the division and within striking distance of making the Wild Card, then that’d be another story. Unless they go on some really big winning streak here in the next few weeks, it’s doubtful they give up much of anything to acquire a guy like Mike Moustakas.

Royals fans love Moustakas, and for good reason, but when push comes to shove, fans in Kansas City see him in a different light than the rest of the league. No one wanted to give him a big contract this offseason and it wouldn’t be shocking if no one wanted to trade for him either. Royals fans obviously feel bad for Moose, but Major League Baseball is a business and business is rough between these two right now.

While the trade deadline isn’t even in full effect yet, the Kansas City Royals have already traded two players and probably aren’t done shipping guys off to other teams. Will Mike Moustakas be a part of future Royals rumors? We’ll have to wait and see.
