Kansas City Chiefs current quarterback Patrick Mahomes odds to win league MVP are better than former Chief Alex Smith. Here are all the reasons why.

Alex Smith did some wonderful things during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. Ever since the Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes, no matter what, Smith seemed to play second fiddle to the thought of Mahomes leading the Chiefs.

This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs shipped Smith to Washington, officially handing the keys to the franchise to Mahomes.

Although there is some that believe the Chiefs are going to drop to the bottom of the AFC West, many believe that the Chiefs will be as good, if not better than they were last season.

Especially when it comes to the offensive side of the ball. The Chiefs offense is going to be ridiculously good. The weapons the Chiefs have at each position are unmatched across the league.

More from KC Kingdom

Smith led the Chiefs to four playoff berths in five years and won two straight division titles. The latter had never been done by Kansas City.

Patrick Mahomes has one regular-season win during week 17 in a meaningless game. He also looks good in practice. So we’ve been told.

In a recent release by Bovada.lv, Patrick Mahomes comes in at 27th with Alex Smith right behind him. Mahomes is sitting at 55/1 while Smith is sitting at 60/1. So why does a quarterback that has played in just one game have a better chance at winning MVP than Smith and many other? It’s simple.

He’s that good

Have you seen him play? He doesn’t look nervous, throws with confidence, looks comfortable, and does things never seen from the quarterback position.

He set records at Texas Tech, made plays Chiefs fans hadn’t seen before during last preseason. Then there is that meaningless game against the Broncos. It may be meaningless to some, but it was the first taste of a Mahomes-led Chiefs team.

He took the Chiefs 2nd and 3rd string to Denver and defeated the majority of their 1st string defense. Even after Andy Reid almost blew it letting Tyler Bray get playing time, Mahomes came back in and led the Chiefs to victory late in the game.

He has better weapons

Alex Smith has Josh Doctson, Jamison Crowder, Paul Richardson, Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis to throw to. He has an exciting rookie behind him in Derrius Guice.

Mahomes has Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Chris Conley, and Travis Kelce to throw to. He happens to have last seasons league-leading rusher Kareem Hunt behind him, as well as Spencer ware and Charcandrick West.

No contest here. The offense for Kansas City is quite a bit sexier than Washington’s.

Hype vs no hype

Smith doesn’t make much noise. He flies under the radar, doing things for the community without cameras and showing up on Sunday.

Mahomes is the exact opposite. He’s everywhere. If there is an event in Kansas City or the surrounding area, Mahomes is there. He interacts with fans on a near-daily basis. You may drive by and see him playing a pickup baseball game at a rundown ball field even.

The anticipation, the waiting, the chance to see how special Mahomes may be. This has the NFL world on its toes. This much excitement and coverage have never been seen by Chiefs fans. This is why his odds are better than Smith’s.
