Kansas City Chiefs: Best Games From the Andy Reid Era
BEST GAMES OF THE ANDY REID ERA
SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2013 VS PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Prior to the 2013 season, Andy Reid had spent 14 seasons as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. After a lousy 2012 campaign, the Eagles fired him and Reid came to Kansas City. It shocked no one when Reid’s first game back to Philadelphia was a primetime affair for the NFL. It was on Thursday Night Football in week three of the 2013 season.
The Chiefs were 2-0 under their new regime and the Eagles were 1-1, looking to get over .500. While the game was all Chiefs early on, the Eagles made things interesting near the end of the game, putting up ten points in the second half.
Michael Vick, who was the Eagles quarterback at the time, did a lot of damage on the ground, but it wasn’t enough for his team to beat their old coach. A late Chiefs field goal put the game out of reach for Philly.
- As mentioned, Vick was great running with the ball, totaling 99 rushing yards with a long of 61. His passing, however, wasn’t so great, as he completed just 13 passes out of 30 attempts for 201 yards and a touchdown. He was picked off twice, once by Eric Berry and once by Sean Smith. Berry’s interception was a pick-six.
- Vick was sacked six times, with Justin Houston totaling 4.5 of those sacks.
- Alex Smith had a decent night, throwing the ball 35 times for 273 yards. He was sacked five times.
- Jamaal Charles had 92 rushing yards and a touchdown, which was Kansas City’s only offensive touchdown on the evening.
- Ryan Succop kicked four field goals, giving him 12 of Kansas City’s 26 points on the evening.
This game makes the list because it couldn’t have been easy for Andy Reid to go into a place where he ran things for over a decade and be on the other side. The Chiefs knew how important this game was to Reid and they won it for him. The Chiefs moved to 3-0 in 2013 after this victory.
