In the USA Today’s post-spring practice rankings, Kansas State football is ranked 26th. 2018 has the potential to be quite a season for Bill Snyder.

The Kansas State Wildcats have some fairly high expectations in 2018. The ageless Bill Snyder continues to amaze as he returns for another season, which now seems to be a year to year decision. If the Wildcats can win the games they are supposed to and sneak up on a few that maybe they shouldn’t, Kansas State should be a top 25 team for the majority of the season.

Sitting in the 26th spot, the Kansas State Wildcats are in prime position to make a serious run this season. The fact that they are getting that much respect says quite a lot. Kansas State is returning a bunch of starters, as well as major minute guys from last season.

The biggest question mark right now is probably at the starting quarterback position. It appears to be a dead heat between Skylar Thompson and Alex Delton, which could mean they are either both really good, or neither are good enough. Both are definitely “good enough” quarterbacks. Both played some really good football.

Alex Barnes will be one of the top running backs in the league. Isaiah Zuber, Dominique Heath, and Carlos Strickland should help fill the void left by Byron Pringle. This season’s offensive line should be pretty hard to deal with.

The defensive side of the ball will be very young with more holes to fill, but there isn’t any reason the Kansas State Wildcats shouldn’t be a top defense in the Big 12. I know that’s not saying much sometimes.

Special teams could be a pretty big issue for Bill Snyder to figure out, but that’s something he can usually manage. There are definitely questions that will need to be answered when the season starts just a few months away.

Kansas State plays five schools in the top 25 of this list. There are five Big 12 schools ranked ahead of them as well. Seven of their twelve games are at home, three of those home games are weeks one through three. The only away game they might be picked to win is against Baylor.

Look for the Wildcats to surprise some people this season. Kansas State is moving beyond mediocrity. There are a few teams at the top that are going through some major personnel issues as well. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State both have new quarterbacks, and although the talented four or five-star player is waiting to take over, there is no guarantee it will work out.

Special things are on the horizon in Manhattan. The Wildcats should be an exciting team to watch throughout the season. There is no reason to think these kids can win some big games.
