Kansas Jayhawks Basketball: Joe Cremo is exactly who Bill Self wants for 2018
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas Jayhawks currently have one scholarship left to offer. Joe Cremo, a graduate transfer from Albany is who Bill Self wants it to go.
The Kansas Jayhawks are not hurting for talent. They aren’t hurting for depth either, unlike last season. In fact, it feels pretty good to be associated with the Kansas basketball program these days. What the Jayhawks do need, if anything, is a good player who can shoot from the perimeter.

Enter Joe Cremo, a graduate transfer from Albany. In a recent interview with ESPN Radio, he mentioned that he wanted to take a chance on himself. After three straight years of winning basketball at Albany, they never were able to make the big dance. He simply wants to make that happen his senior year. The Kansas Jayhawks may be the team he finally makes it with.
Cremo is the definition of a good player who can shoot the three. He made 46% of his shots from beyond the arc last season, and he’s a career 42% shooter from outside. He’s already made a visit to the defending national champion Villanova Wildcats, and Kansas appears to be the other big program he’s looking at.
"Fit is huge for me, a chance where I’ll be able to have a big role and play. Playing time is big for me."
While Kansas doesn’t need Cremo per say, they sure could use him. Bill Self would love to have that perimeter guy he can count on. That isn’t to say that the new guys coming in can’t shoot the ball from outside, they just aren’t known for it. It isn’t their specialty.
There is no doubt this kid can shoot the money ball from all over the court. He may not quite be the defender or ball handler that the Jayhawks usually go after in a shooting guard, but Cremo has a little bit of Jeff Boschee in him.

The biggest question is how he would fit in Bill Self’s system like he mentioned earlier. There is a good chance that he plays with two bigs out there on a regular basis. There is also an equal chance that he continues playing small ball as well, which got him to the Final Four this past season. Playing time is already going to be a challenge for many on this squad.
