The Kansas City Chiefs have been an interesting team to follow since Brett Veach took over as general manager. The 2018 draft is his chance to leave his mark.

Brett Veach wasted no time in doing things his way when he was named the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs last July. The shoes were pretty big to fill after Kansas City separated itself from John Dorsey, who was a proven talent evaluator.

Among the early moves that he made last season were the additions of Kevin Pierre-Louis and Reggie Ragland. Both played a vital role in the linebacker position last season. Ragland is still on the roster. When Cairo Santos went down he brought in a kicker who could be the guy for the Chiefs for a very long time, Harrison Butker.

When he was able to trade Alex Smith to the Redskins for a third-round pick and Kendall Fuller, it showed he could get the deals done that needed to be made. He and the rest of the Chiefs organization are all in on second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Veach made sure to give him enough weapons with the addition of Sammy Watkins.

The 2018 draft is now upon us, and with the Chiefs currently having no first round pick, the chance to make a splash is ripe with possibilities. His aggressive demeanor has some believing he will trade up into the first round if his guy is still on the board. If that is indeed the case, Veach already has a plan in place, with a target in mind.

A trade into the first would match the aggressiveness that Veach has shown in his first year, so it is very possible, perhaps probable even. It isn’t just the first round that Kansas City may make moves in either. Veach probably has eight players he wants with more than eight ways to get them. He doesn’t seem to be the type of guy to sit back and hope, but the type to stand up and do. This will be a very good thing for the Chiefs.
