Kansas Jayhawks Basketball: Introducing Ochai Agbaji
By Chris Taylor
The Kansas Jayhawks got a little deeper with local phenom Ochai Agbaji signing his letter of intent on April 11th. Here is why you should be excited.
The Kansas Jayhawks love signing kids who want to play for the program. Ochai Agbaji (Oh-cheye ah-bah-gee) is one of those young men. When Kansas offered a scholarship to Ochai, he jumped on it.
Agbaji stands at ‘6-“5, weighs 195 pounds and averaged 27.6 points per game at Oak Park High School in Kansas City. On the same day that he signed his letter of intent he also won the Direnna Award, which honors the player of the year in the Kansas City area.

This signing just makes Kansas that much deeper for next season, as Kansas goes for 15 straight conference titles.
Bill Self spoke highly of Ochai, comparing him to Travis Releford.
"Coach Roberts went to watch Ochai play a couple times and was really impressed. I had a chance to see him in January and thought he was terrific. I love his demeanor. He has a maturity about himself. He has a terrific frame and is an explosive athlete who can shoot."
Even though he’s just a three-star player, it sounds like Ochai will be able to contribute early. He joins Devon Dotson, Quentin Grimes, and David McCormack in this year’s class. Take a look for yourself and see what all the fuss is about. If Ochai is what Bill Self says he is, he will be part of something big.
He has a substantial amount of basketball smarts to back up his talent. It all comes with a sprinkle of attitude as well but in a good way. As seen in the video above, he’s capable of going into a hostile environment and playing stellar ball. Basketball fans in Missouri sure are salty.
Playing time will be sparse next season, for everyone on the squad. The guys that you see playing with minutes on their side, will have beaten out some quality teammates. Many fans were upset he chose the Jayhawks, but Lawrence, Kansas was his dream destination. Did you notice the sign at the beginning telling him to enjoy four years on the bench? Is this Mizzou logic? Bench players for Kansas could be all-time greats at Mizzou? That kind of puts things into perspective of how the rivalry has evolved.
The trick is on them, he blew the shorts off those boys in the video, he definitely will not be a four-year ride-the-pine player. If you are interested in seeing more from Ochai, click here.
