It had been quite a while since Clint Bowyer was able to take a victory lap. In fact, it was the third longest gap between wins in NASCAR history.

Emporia, Kansas native Clint Bowyer had to wait a little bit longer to win his first NASCAR race in 190 tries. The race had to be pushed back due to snow, so the drivers weren’t able to get behind the wheel until Monday. The wait was worth it.

The last time Bowyer won a NASCAR race, it apparently was alright to shotgun a beer on live television, as the camera panned away for over seven seconds.

After a quality start to his NASCAR career, Bowyer’s success on the track faded away as he struggled to find a quality team to give him a quality crew and a quality car. Taking over for Tony Stewart in the No.14 car for Stewart/Haas Racing, the shoes were big to fill, but the quality of his team was vastly better than what Bowyer had in recent years.

Bowyer led 215 laps out of 500. He led the final 114 laps. Martinsville is one of the toughest tracks on the circuit, and Bowyer mastered it. Bowyer is easy to like, despite the long winless streak, he has a lot of talent, and if you’ve ever seen an interview with him, he’s funny, very funny.

The win by Bowyer gave SHR their fourth win in six races this season. He was also able to finally get that victory lane picture with his three-year old son, Cash.

He also got that beer he so desperately wanted.

When asked about the Final Four, he asked his wife if he could go and she told him no. Even when he pleaded about it being K.U., she didn’t care. The transaction between the two brought tons of laughter from the media room. Rock Chalk.

Bowyer put an end to his dark past in the sport, and hopefully rejuvenated his career. His accomplishment is a feel good story for the blue-collar American to relate to. It will be a fun ride to follow Bowyer throughout the season to see if he can keep up the positive results.
